The driving force for HEI is the committee. A dedicated group of professionals, the committee members give their time to promote the objectives of HEI by programming and managing the seminars and other activities of the group.
Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (hons) degree from the University of Sydney and a Masters of Environmental Management from the University of NSW. He is also an Exemplar Global (formerly RABQSA) certified Lead Environmental Auditor and has extensive experience with undertaking audits for mines, utilities and major industrial operations.

Ian’s professional training has included remote sensing and geographic information systems, cost benefit analysis, value management, TQM, environmental health, Alternative Dispute Resolution, public consultation, public speaking and presentation skills, green procurement, and safer by design.
Since his career change from research science Ian has worked for NGOs, Local and State Governments as Team Leader/Manager, Project Manager, Environmental specialist, and consultant. He managed the Beachwatch Program for the EPA, and has worked in areas sustainability and conservation/heritage. He has worked in environmental health both for Sydney Water and NSW Health.
Alec commenced with the Unuiversity of Newcastle in2015. In the role of a project officer, Alec develops and manages content on initiatives on environmental sustainability across the media platforms – website, e-newsletter, and social media. Alec also coordinates events, forums and conferences held by the University.
Michael’s key interest areas are currently sustainability, renewable energy, climate change and innovation.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts (Communication Studies) and a Master of Marketing and a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management from the University of Newcastle. He is expecting to complete a Master in Environmental Management and Sustainability in 2019.
She has worked for both the public and private sector on both large and small linear and other infrastructure projects, through all stages of development including feasibility and options, environmental impact assessment and construction and/or operation, with an aim of delivering projects with good, practical environmental outcomes.
She has worked on a range of projects including renewables, road and rail infrastructure, water and port infrastructure and lubricant blending plants, with a focus on linear infrastructure. Fiona is a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) and full member of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ). Fiona joined the HEI committee in 2018 and is looking to provide further education and networking opportunities for environmental professionals in the Hunter.
She has undertaken work in environmental assessments for example, Review of Environmental Factors (REF), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and environmental management reports including CEMP, OEMP and PIRMP.
Samantha has worked on projects in sectors including road and rail infrastructure
and upgrades, transport, defence, waste facility enhancements, waste management planning, water and wastewater, energy infrastructure, extractive industries and urban and industrial development.
Samantha is passionate about the advancements in assessing and managing the environment for proposed developments, infrastructure and new environmental topics relevant to the immediate and wider environment.
Clare has expertise in environmental impact assessments (EIA), environmental management and compliance as well as environmental auditing. Clare has experience in all stages of project delivery, from planning through to construction and operation. Clare’s experience has been predominately gained from working in multidisciplinary teams on civil infrastructure projects both as the project management and the environmental lead.
Roshni is passionate about making a difference and creating value, and believes that the environmental consulting industry is a very exciting place to be in. She was recently selected to attend the United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress in Dequing, China, and is involved in the strategic planning of the future of the Australian spatial industry at the state, national and international level. Roshni is also involved in the organising of Locate19 (Melbourne, April 2019) and the South East Asian Survey Congress (Darwin, August 2019) conferences.
