Revitalisation of the City of Newcastle – redevelopment of land along Newcastle’s Waterfront
October 17, 2007 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
The Regional Land Management Corporation Pty Ltd was created by the NSW Government in April 2003. The RLMC manages more than 3500 hectares of former BHP Billiton and other state owned land on four sites in the Lower Hunter region. This includes the former Steelworks site, which ceased operation in 1999, being a 150Ha size site known as the Intertrade Industrial Park.
Remediation works have recently been completed at the site and included the construction of a 1.4km underground barrier wall around the most contaminated area of the site, new drainage systems as well as regrading and capping of the Site. A Draft Master Plan and Illustrative Land Use Plan for the site are now complete.
The Honeysuckle Development Corporation (HDC) is a NSW state government organisation and was formed in 1992 to facilitate the redevelopment and revitalisation of inner city Newcastle. Honeysuckle Development Corporation is coordinating the redevelopment of surplus railway and port-related government land in Newcastle. A site of 50 hectares, this area stretches along four kilometres of CBD waterfront. Much of the land immediately adjacent to Newcastle foreshore has been reclaimed during restoration and construction of the sea wall.
