Secrets of the Black Sea

Dive into the Black Sea Abyss and discover a prehistoric landscape littered with ancient shipwrecks. Follow the researchers of the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project (Black Sea MAP) and experience the thrill of the biggest maritime archaeology expedition in Human History, as 65 preserved sailing ships emerge from the anoxic darkness to tell the marvelous story of mankind’s endeavors at sea.

Presented by Dr Dragomir Garbov

Dragomir Garbov holds a BA, MA and a PhD in Archaeology from the New Bulgarian University in Sofia, Bulgaria. Between 2013 and 2017 he worked in the Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Sozopol (Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria) where he is now an associate researcher. His current academic interests are focused on wooden shipbuilding and seafaring in the Golden Age of Sail, maritime connectivity and coastal and maritime human landscapes. Dragomir is a core member of the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project (Black Sea MAP, www.blackseamap.com) and directed the underwater excavations of the St. Nicholas Bay Shipwreck in Chernomorets, Bulgaria in 2015. He holds a number of recreational and commercial diving licenses.
