Water Resources in the Hunter Region

Water resources in the Hunter Region face a number of risks that must be managed to ensure access to secure and clean water supplies is maintained. Our next seminar will focus on how water supplies are planned for and how key risks to water resources are managed. Guest speakers for the event are:

  • Adam Gilligan – Manager Hunter Region, NSW Environment Protection Authority.  Adam will speak about the regulation of pollution that may affect water supplies in the Hunter, such as groundwater contamination issues affecting the Williamtown area and the Hunter
    River Salinity Trading Scheme.
  • Cathy Cole – Project Manager, NSW Department of Primary Industries – Water. Cathy will speak about the Lower Hunter Water Plan which identifies a mix of water supply and demand measures that will ensure secure access to water is maintained during periods of drought and as the region continues to develop.
  • Greg Bone – Manager Planning, Hunter Water Corporation. Greg will provide an overview of the dams and catchments that Hunter Water use to provide drinking water and how they are working with DPI Water in developing the Lower Hunter Water Plan. Greg will also talk about measures to protect water quality in the catchments.
