Water supply and sustainability seminar

Our population is increasing rapidly, yet we are facing widespread uncertainty around water security and one of the worst droughts in history – so what are we going to do about it? Our next seminar focuses on just that!

This seminar will give you the chance to hear about the long-term plan for keeping our water flowing, and provide an opportunity for you to discuss water supply issues with key staff from Hunter Water. Speaking will be:

  • Emma Berry (Water Resilience Program Director, Hunter Water Corporation). Emma is a water sustainability professional with over 20 years’ experience in the consulting and water utility fields. She is passionate about the environment and delivering sustainable outcomes for the community. Emma will provide an overview of the work Hunter Water is doing with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and other government agencies on the Lower Hunter Water Plan (LHWP) to meet the region’s future water needs. Emma will provide an overview of the LHWP journey to date, seek feedback on a range of key issues and outline the next steps for water planning in the Lower Hunter.
  • David Derkenne (Manager of Sustainability and Risk). David is an environmental engineer with more than 15 years experience in the Australian water industry. He is passionate about working with communities to explore the trade-offs and solutions to complex and long-term problems. David will provide an overview of Hunter Water’s approach to mapping its operations and impacts against the UN Sustainable Development Goals. David will also discuss Hunter Water’s current environmental initiatives in the areas of carbon, energy and waste to energy. David will seek your feedback on priority areas for these matters.

Hunter Water Corporation is generously sponsoring this event, so we don’t need to charge for tickets! please RSVP below.

After the event come along to Newcastle Green Drinks, downstairs at the same venue Customs House Hotel.
