Protecting the Marine Environment

In recognition of World Environment Day, the Hunter Environmental Institute hosted a special seminar exploring efforts to protect our marine environment. The event featured presentations from three experts working across policy, science, and research, followed by a Q&A session and networking drinks in partnership with EIANZ NSW Division at The Clarendon Hotel.

Ben RampanoManager, Aquatic Biosecurity Programs, NSW Department of Primary Industries
Ben discussed biosecurity threats facing Australia’s marine ecosystems and the proactive policies and practices used to protect aquatic biodiversity and industry sustainability.


Natalie DevillersSenior Environmental Scientist
Natalie shared insights from her work on marine environmental assessments and conservation, including approaches to managing human impacts on sensitive coastal and ocean environments.


Molly GrewPhD Candidate, Marine Science, University of Newcastle
Molly presented findings from her research on marine megafauna and ecosystem change, with a focus on science-driven conservation.
