This webinar, presented during National Water Week (18–24 October), focused on the critical global issue of water security with a special emphasis on integrating regional Indigenous perspectives and water management. The event highlighted collaborative efforts between traditional owners and water authorities to ensure culturally informed and sustainable water security planning in the Lower Hunter region.

Claire Turrell – Hunter-Central Rivers First Nations Marine Services (HCFMS)
Claire discussed her work with traditional Owners as part of the Lower Hunter Floodplain Management Scheme review. Her presentation included insights into Indigenous knowledge and cultural connections to water, supported by a short video featuring traditional owners.
Jordie Bates – Hunter Water Corporation (HWC)
Jordie spoke about the Aboriginal cultural research and community engagement process undertaken in the preparation of the Lower Hunter Water Security Plan, emphasizing respectful collaboration and incorporating Indigenous values into water planning.
