Water Quality at The Haven, Terrigal and NSW Water Quality Objectives Seminar
Date: 17/02/2021
Location: Online

This seminar addressed ongoing concerns about water quality at The Haven, Terrigal—a popular beach site on the Central Coast with a history of poor water quality ratings. The event featured an innovative water quality audit using DNA markers to identify sources of microbial pollution such as sewage, bird feces, and urban runoff.
The session also covered the NSW Government’s review of Water Quality Objectives, which set environmental values and goals for waterways across the state. Community engagement efforts were highlighted, seeking local input to better align waterway management with public values and uses.
Attendees learned about cutting-edge water science, local pollution challenges, and how government agencies and councils collaborate to improve coastal water quality and protect community health.
