Fire Country – Indigenous Fire Management in the Hunter

This special end-of-year event highlighted the importance of Indigenous cultural fire management practices in the Hunter region and beyond. Featuring key voices in Indigenous land and fire stewardship, the webinar explored how traditional fire knowledge is being revitalised and applied to heal Country, improve environmental outcomes, and create new opportunities for Aboriginal communities.

Attendees heard firsthand from leading figures working on the ground to balance cultural, ecological, and economic goals through fire. The speakers also discussed the challenges of policy and legislative recognition, youth engagement, and the potential for new accredited fire training programs tailored to Indigenous communities in NSW.
