HEI/UoN: Careers in the Environment

This interactive careers webinar, hosted in collaboration with the University of Newcastle, focused on helping students and early-career professionals understand pathways into the environmental sector. Attendees heard firsthand from a panel of young professionals about their career journeys, study pathways, internships, and current roles in the industry.

The event was designed to demystify career planning in the environmental space, offering practical insights into how to gain experience, build networks, and navigate job opportunities. A Q&A session followed the panel, allowing participants to seek advice and guidance directly from the speakers.

Hayley ArdaghEnvironmental Officer, NCIG
Hayley shared her experience transitioning from volunteer work and bush regeneration into a professional role at Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group, via their internship and graduate programs.


Sarah DaleEnvironmental Consultant, NGH
Sarah discussed her work in contaminated land assessment and environmental impact statements, as well as her consulting experience across infrastructure and natural environments.


Jack CaldwellEnvironment & Community Graduate, Glencore
Jack explained his rotations in the mining sector, focusing on statutory compliance and environmental management at open cut coal sites.


Vincent GilliesEnvironmental Consultant, Wolfpeak
Vincent described his broad experience in contaminated site investigations, remediation, and sustainability, while also pursuing postgraduate study in Environmental Planning.


Melissa MooreSenior Manager, Careers & Student Development, University of Newcastle
Melissa offered guidance on career support services and student development opportunities available through the university, drawing on her extensive background in finance, education, and career mentoring.
